List of traditional regions of Slovakia
These traditional regions of Slovakia are mostly former counties of the Kingdom of Hungary, of which present-day Slovakia was part until 1918, but some other historical regions are also listed. See History of Slovakia.
Counties
There were 20 (earlier 21) counties of the Kingdom of Hungary situated completely or partly in present-day Slovakia. After the creation of Czechoslovakia, they continued to exist until 1922. Most are still referred to informally.

- Mošoň (Hungarian: Moson, almost wholly in present-day Hungary)
- Prešporok (today's Bratislava, in Hungarian: Pozsony, almost wholly in Slovakia)
- Gemer-Malohont (Hungarian: Gömör-Kishont, almost wholly in Slovakia)
- Ráb (Hungarian: Győr, almost wholly in present-day Hungary)
- Komárno county (Hungarian: Komárom, southern part in present-day Hungary)
- Ostrihom county (Hungarian: Esztergom, southern part in present-day Hungary)
- Hont (almost wholly in Slovakia)
- Novohrad (Hungarian: Nógrád, southern part in present-day Hungary)
- Abov-Turňa (Hungarian: Abaúj-Torna, southern part in present-day Hungary)
- Zemplín (Hungarian: Zemplén, southern part in Hungary)
- Uh county (Hungarian: Ung, eastern part in Ukraine)
- Orava (Hungarian: Árva, northern part annexed by Poland in 1919)
- Spiš (Hungarian: Szepes, northern part annexed by Poland in 1919)
